VSN Continued on Sunday Afternoon

 

Well, there was larger than 12" of room to play on the far side so, I did get 4 more cards done for the VSN challenges. 

Jean has a take it with a grain of salt challenge so, I grabbed this previously started background and got it re wet and salted. 

When it was dry it you could not see any salt dried texture patterns so, out came more water and I cleaned off a pallet over it and set it aside to dry.

While that was going on I had you know a scratch paper list of all the challenges and I started poking around in the already colored images to see if anything might work. Dug out this bear Stampabilities gruffy bear-ied in paperwork because, Brenda's challenge was a Murphy's law sorry or get well challenge. So, mine went a little sorry not sorry. I have a stack of these file folder card bases I cut years ago when I was on a kick and I had dug them out to start using them up. the sentiment (river city rubber works) here was cut with a paper smooches word bubble die and the bear got a little bit of watercolor shadows added to him. ( he's up on foam dots) 

A few weeks ago I started painting a couple of these hen lady images and they were in that mess on the other side of the table, I had stacked them up with potential printed paper pads and decided to just glue one together.

For Misti's madder than a wet hen challenge. The gal is "hen Party" from Stampassions, the oh, no you diten is from the paper smooches slang gang set and the cluck it sentiment is from the Picket fence studios hot chick set. the May arts ribbon was stapled to that with a Tim Holtz stapler. both of these sentiments were stamped and die cut from scraps a long time ago so from the drawer.

Misti also has a "Bless your heart" challenge. This angie gal from Unity Stamps the dream of being is one my favorite one that Angie Blom has drawn. I've colored her a lot and the woodgrain is a drop piece from something I did last week I think. The special sentiment is from The rubber cafe and the tiny bless is from Hero Arts. They both fit on the mid size Jumbo stitched banner die from Impression Obsession. 

Kim's first challenge was "when I was your age" my thought was you had to walk to the tv to turn the knob to change the channel. and I only really thought of it because, I had this tv cut and watercolored on the table from sometime when I was on a cut up that strathmore paper.. the American Art stamps was already colored and I figured she worked as most the people I know are all watching all the cooking shows... the tv is up on foam tape, the wood panel wall is My Minds Eye printed paper and the green textured mulberry paper is supposed to make you think green shag circa 1970 carpet. That's it from me, there are 4 more on the scratch paper and I am not sure if I will get to them or not, the salted background got minimal texture when I looked at it this morning before work, so its been pressed inside the big shot all day trying to straighten out.

Dare to get dirty Day 3

 Today I have for you some cute little Christmas Cookie cards done for Janine's DTGD challenge seen here on Splitcoaststampers. 

These are folding card dies from The Stamps of Life. These are the first dies I have ever bought from that company and I do like them and will more than likely add to the collection down the road but, these darlings are why I caved. The also make flat tag shapes if you did not do the base piece and just the body piece. ( Can you see that? I did do the bodies in a slightly lighter color than the bases) but, every piece has Distress Oxide vintage photo along the edges. The candy cane and the bow on her collar are from the Spellbinders post and parcel set and the tiny ginger cookie tucked into her pocket is from the Cottagecutz gingerbread gnome die. The tiny buttons are from the jesse james dress it up line and the hemp string is natural color. There is a bit of white gel pen on the tiny Gingerbread cookie and looking at this I am thinking I should have done the cheeks on the big ones. This was the first time I had cut and played with these so, I did want to keep them flat-ish for mailing. They fit inside an A2 envelope. Inspired by { Crazy Dog T-Shirts }

 Hi, It's my week to host the Inspiration challenge at Splitcoaststampers and I had stumbled across a silly fishing tee shirt from Crazy Dog T-Shirts and thought this may be fun for jump starts for Fathers Day. They also have Pinterest Boards that hide here. 

 

I have really been enjoying being able to just pop cards into the mailbox without having to stand in line to mail them this last little while so, I knew I had this Hero Arts nested T-shirt die set and that it would be really easy to make some Clean and Simple tee shirts. I laughed at this shirt in particular And started digging out my Fishing sentiments and some tiny fishing images. I cut a stack of the largest t die and then I scored some thin 80# white accent opaque cardstock to be folding bases for the tops to layer on, the fold is slightly under the collar of the neckline ( which you can see on the tee shirt on the left here as that one is a one layer card. the others with "crisp" corners on the collar are layered cards.

I think that rounded look is "OK" too, I do think the fishing lines ( Impression Obsession) are a little too big scale wise for the die but, this was just for play so, I paired it with a Sentiment from stamping Bella as it went nearly side to side on the shirt front. The one in the center the small fishing scene was a block with no mfg info on it and hubs found it on eBay a while back, that sentiment is from Heather and the larger fishing scene on the right shirt is from the old SU set called Angler, that sentiment is from Inky Antics.

So I decided to try some with just sentiments. The shirt on the left the sentiment is from Rubbernecker and I believe the one on the far right is also a Rubbernecker stamp but, I don't see it online in their store anymore and its not in the evernote file. the one in the center is from Impression Obsession. These the corners of the outside edge of the shirt are too wide to fit into A2 envelopes like this so, I have put them crooked into A6 envelopes. That's about it from me, hope you are doing well. More May Christmas Cards

I have been keeping up with Christmas cards this year ( so far) and the box headed to the school is looking good for a variety of things. I was thinking to make a stack of these trees but, the paper pieceing of them is I have to spend so much time thinking about the print and how it will look pieced that I have not made anymore of them  yet. 

 a look at it open. this is the Sizzix fold a long Tree die the sentiment is from Clearly Besotted. the printed paper is from MME. ( a year or two ago)

 closed. if you look closely at the lowest branch on the right side you will see where i cut a scrap to cover that last branch with the printed paper.

 I did end up running one ribbon through both holes to tie closed instead of two ribbons on the flaps as shown on the dies packaging. ( that was too bulky for me)

 This is today's try a new technique challenge to try an "impossible" card. there is a quick video in the thread that shows how to. It is pretty simple the over thinking part comes along for me trying to wallpaper the cuts. this is a second attempt the first one I pulled apart and saved the image I had colored. ( I think I may try this twist as a tall skinny shape) this one is 6" square in real life.

 a closer look at the image. The woodgrain/holly print are the flip sides of the same piece of Tim Holtz ( last Christmas ) printed paper pad.

A look at it tilted up to read the Altenew sentiment.

 The sentiment is from Taylored Expressions. I had picked up this package of premade glitter card bases from Micheals last month and opened the box to play with them, at that time I had this tree scrap sitting on the table and liked the colors together so, this was just an easy one using a pre stamped sentiment and some vintage ric rac.

The funny thing about these glitter cards is, there is glitter on the back cover too. ( I have seen cards pre-made before where only one side has glitter so, this was interesting and unexpected when I opened the box)

 I know this embossing folder is from Anna Griffin, and I did ink the folder before I pressed the kraft cardstock through it, but I do not remember what they call that. the sentiment is from Mama Elephant and this one is A7 in real life.

Bridge Cards

 A thank-you card for Hubs hunting buddy for all of his Christmas gifts he gave us this year, it ended up becoming a "deer" card because of the gift seen below.
I did follow the instructions that Sabrina has shots of in the try a new technique challenge thread here today. so, these cards do fold flat into an A-2 sized envelope in real life. The sentiment on this one is from the Simon Says Stamp set called You got this, the deer are both Tim Holtz Sizzix dies one from the reindeer flight die and the other from the winter wonderland dies. I did guess where to add the eyeball with a sharpie marker.

 Hubs hunting buddy gifted him with this "deer poop" necklace as a gag gift for Christmas this year, it was tucked down inside a wine gift bag.
( I told him he should wear this to work on wednesday lol)
Hubs did shoot some awesome (photographs) of deer and various other critters in the woods this year. I think he enjoys that part of "hunting" even more than collecting the gear and dressing up to go camp in the woods to just wander around the woods and such. 

 For my friend at work and her husband who gave us way too many things for Christmas that included an Angel with a red & green tartan skirt and feather wings, so when I started this card I was going to have an angel on it but, the one angel die I have really didn't work for me when I was pushing things around and knowing that she loves snow I switched gears mid stream and kept the red plaid with the snowman.

 I tried to shoot a more over the bridge and down into the scene shot but, its probably one of those things you'd have to shoot before it was glued together.
The bridge protects the lump of the bow and the pearl on the inside when its folded flat.

The back side has one sentiment from Hero Arts ( sending love ) is from the Holiday tags and dies set and the Thanks for everything is from the Altenew Enchanted Iris set.

 One more with the same deer. the birch bark "paper" is wrapping paper from Pier1 imports and the text paper in the center is from the same pebbles sheet as the center snowman card. the Thanks diecut was done with opal stardream shimmer cardstock, the stamped sentiments are also hero Arts from the May 2016 monthly hero kit set. I did layer two cuts of the winter wonderland deer ( buck) to have a darker shade of brown be the "shadow" of him. the eyes were done with a sharpie marker.

More chicks

 So, on Thursday afternoon I started messing around with different sizes. the largest was cut from a 5" folded square and the smallest from a 3". ( all of these have added A Muse sentiments to them too)

this trio was 4" originally and I have some flat not card shaped chicks under construction on my table when it got too dark to see last night. so, you will see some more of these because, they are really easy and a little addictive.

Chick Cards

So, over the years I have seen Michelle make these chicken shaped cards and loved them every time, but recently I actually remembered to save her photo to my favorites so, I could try this some time. ( the shape did not look like oh my gosh you cannot even try to get that line that kind of a shape kwim?) On my version, these are single sided chicks so the back sides are just plain card base. I started with a 5" square and trimmed the sides to get the teacup looking body shape. The heart dies are all from the classic spellbinders set.

 I did ink all the printed papers with some van dyke brown ranger ink. the laces on each of these chicks are vintage.

 This button is also vintage and the eyes are the 5MM darice ones.

I took these printed papers from my scrap bin so, no clue on the mfg info except the corrugate is all fancy pants and the base's are neenah.

these actually went together pretty quick for me and I think it would be very easy to make a flock of them in no time at all.

couple of challenge cards

 These denim flowers came home in my suitcase, but I have already forgotten if they were a gift from Janice or if I picked them up while shopping with Janice... either which way I am sure I have her to thank for them as I had not seen them in our local store. the lace flowers are all vintage from the loot from the other day. ( not sure if I made a loot post yet)

 This was done for today's featured stamper Paula ( who has gifted me over the years with some of the vintage lace in her stash) so, I went looking through her gallery at all the lacy cards for a while and then decided I didn't really want to make changes to them and chose this flower pot card. and used some new to me things. the flowers are glued to an insert piece that pulls out of the pot and this was done with an Sizzix pro die and so its inside a 5X7 clear box.

The inspiration challenge went to a blog this weekend where I found this print and I thought I owned a stamp that said that but, If so its is hiding and I remembered I had this MFT set so, used it instead. and so, changes were I reversed the black and white ratio of the colors, added in the sliver of blue and then tossed in the vintage camera die cut for fun. ( and because, I knew I had one already cut in the stash)

Saturday's Cards

The inspiration challenge heads to a store today and I had seen this silver bracelet before I ran out the door this morning for breakfast and the yard sales. so, this is what I came up with in my head while shopping. ( not much silver on it but, I am not that big of a fan of silver)
This sentiment came to me via the yardsale loot post from yesterday and the background stamp is a new one from SU called something lacy. they were both stamped with some Imperial Purple Versafine on some Neenah Solar white. the base is also from Neenah an Columns textured one and this is A-7 in real life.

The lure is from Judi Kins colored with some copics. this one is 4 X 9 in real life.

The man and the sentiment are from Art Impressions ( copics) and the plaid is from SU colored with markers. ( not sure what its real name is anymore that plaid background) but, its the big solid one not the ones with the border stamps you had to line up yourself. funny true story. the other day I had told hubs I seen the most pretty blue colored plaid shirt at Kohls but, I didn't buy it because, I have never in all these years seen him wear plaid and he said to me what is plaid? ( and I think I had to pick my jaw up over that one haha)

Now, last week there was a cupcake challenge. and I knew I had this PTI die set, and I am not sure I have ever played with it. but, I have been collecting "cupcake" sentiments so, I dug it out and I am not sure any of them turned out CAS so, I have not posted them yet. this is the only one I left as a shaped card, and I did line the inside but, did not use the liner die on it.

The frosting on this one was done with a gelli print on some deli paper with acrylic paint a while back. the sentiment is from Riley & Co.
that base is mauve mist. (yep, I am one of those people who does not get rid of retired colors) :)

This one the frosting was run through the big shot with a craft concepts folder called budding vine then inked to show off the swirls. the sentiment is from SU.

Same embossing folder this one the sentiment is from that line of changito monkeys and was a gift from June but, I cannot picture the co. mfg info in my head. so, this is the first time I have used it. :)

I have been meaning to pair this die and sentiment for years and never get around to it because, I think I have only really used the bra die ( My Favorite things) for Hope you can cling to things. not sure anymore. I *think* the sentiment is IO but, I have to double check. the bra was cut from scraps so no clue on the mfg of them.

the Taylored Expressions Spectacular die and sentiments. on 3" card bases from scraps. and now I have a good sized pile of scraps going on again and a pile of things to color from the loot that came home ( has been stamped and put away)

WOYWW #292

Welcome to Wednesday's Desk display If you would like to play along this blog hop starts at Julia's Blog seen here. ... this is how I left it Sunday am when we left to go to a (supposedly "HUGE" flea market ) about 80 miles from us. (came home with 2 old stamps have not shot a photo of them oops they are in the kitchen) 

 and so, I went upstairs yesterday evening after work and shot this. nope, it's not normally that light up in the cave but, this one was edited in photoshop this morning haha.

I have officially opened all the sizzix dies from Christmas and have cut a couple of the tall coffee mugs so far. and added in some felt holly from the Hero Arts die I was playing with last week for this gift card holder and starting to dr. up the title page for the December Daily book. 

thought this paper looked like sweater texture and it would be a good pair for warm and cozy and felt.

this mug is big enough to fit on an A-7 card front. if that gives you an idea size wise and funny I never noticed the paper was not lined up on the mug to the handle I was more looking at the where to place the curve in the top of the handle on the side of the mug than anything else. guess I will have to pay attention to the next bunch.
